See the wonders of Australia's own Great Barrier Reef. Cruise
out to Fantasea's pontoon - moored right on the edge of the
reef itself and spend the day snorkelling or diving. Take
a semi-submersible ride along the reef wall or watch myriads
of colourful fish from the underwater viewing atrium. You
can even stay overnight on a popular reefsleep and watch the
coral change colours at sunset. Take a fast boat out to Hardy's
reef to snorkle and dive or enjoy a scenic flight or helicopter
ride over the splendid awe-inspiring vastness of this natural
wonder.
The Great Barrier Reef is undisputed as
one of the world's most important natural assets. It is the
largest natural feature on earth stretching more than 2,300km
along the northeast coast of Australia from the northern tip
of Queensland to just north of Bundaberg.
The area abounds with wildlife, including
dugong and green turtles, varieties of dolphins and whales,
more than 1500 species of fish, 4000 types of mollusc and
more than 200 species of birdlife. The Great Barrier Reef
system consists of more than 3000 reefs which range in size
from 1 hectare to over 10,000 hectares in area. The reef is
scattered with beautiful islands and idyllic coral cays and
covers more than 300,000 square kilometres.
